Southern Massachusetts teen held without bail after allegedly grabbing officer’s gun during struggle post-motorcycle crash in Seekonk.

A 19-year-old man was arraigned Monday in Fall River Superior Court following a motorcycle crash and subsequent altercation with police in Seekonk on August 13.

According to Seekonk Police, multiple units were dispatched to 178 Central Avenue (Rt. 152) around 12:30 p.m. for a report of a motorcycle collision. The motorcycle had rear-ended a sedan that was stopped in the roadway. While there were no initial reports of injuries, Seekonk Fire/Rescue was called to the scene due to the circumstances of the crash.

As emergency medical personnel evaluated the motorcycle operator, Nathaniel A. Cronin of Falmouth, authorities discovered he had provided false information. Cronin fled from the rear of the ambulance, prompting a foot pursuit by police. He was located nearby on Edwards Avenue.

During the attempted arrest, Cronin engaged in a struggle with officers, during which he allegedly grabbed an officer’s firearm and partially removed it from the holster. A round was discharged, but no injuries occurred. Officers were eventually able to subdue Cronin and take him into custody.

Cronin faces multiple charges including Assault and Battery Attempt to Disarm a Police Officer, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer (two counts), and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, among others. Following his indictment in Superior Court on September 24, he pleaded not guilty Monday and is being held without bail. A pretrial conference is scheduled for November 19.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
