POST FALLS, Idaho — A Spokane motorcyclist died Sunday morning after a crash on Interstate 90 while being pursued for speeding.
Authorities identified the victim as 21-year-old Eddie Martinez Lopez. The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. near the roundabout at Prairie Avenue and Chase Road.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, a state police sergeant clocked Lopez driving 117 mph on I-90 near Spokane Street. The sergeant activated lights and sirens in an attempt to pull him over.
Lopez crashed shortly after entering the roundabout. First responders arrived and located him near the crash site. Life-saving measures were initiated by the sergeant, with assistance from sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel, but Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigation Unit is conducting an ongoing investigation.
