Survivor of Alaska crab boat disaster fatally injured in motorcycle accident.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A motorcycle accident claimed the life of 36-year-old Jon Lawler in Anchorage on Sunday afternoon.

According to Anchorage Police, Lawler lost control of his motorcycle while navigating a roundabout around 2:41 p.m. Emergency personnel responded promptly to the scene. Despite their efforts, Lawler was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.

Witnesses reported that the motorcycle appeared to veer off course before the accident. Lawler was previously known as one of the two survivors from the ill-fated Scandies Rose crab boat, which sank in the Gulf of Alaska on December 31, 2019. Five crew members lost their lives in that incident, attributed to severe weather conditions.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the motorcycle accident. No additional injuries have been reported, and the incident has not led to any lane closures.

The community mourns the loss of Lawler, whose previous survival from a maritime tragedy highlighted his resilience. Further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
