HICKORY, N.C. — A 19-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday following a crash on Highway 70 on Friday evening.
According to the Hickory Police Department, Alex Austin was riding a 2024 Kawasaki EX500 eastbound when he struck the rear of a Hyundai Kona in the middle lane around 8 p.m.
Austin was initially taken to a Catawba County hospital before being airlifted to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he succumbed to his injuries.
As of Monday, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Hickory Police Department.
