Teen on electric motorcycle critically injures 81-year-old man.

81-Year-Old Critical After Electric Motorcycle Collision in Lake Forest

An 81-year-old man is in critical condition following a collision with a 14-year-old boy on an electric motorcycle near El Toro High School in Lake Forest on Thursday, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Toledo Way and Ridge Route Drive. The man was reportedly crossing the street when struck by the motorcycle, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital by deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The teenage rider fled the scene but was later identified. A search warrant was executed at a nearby residence, leading to his arrest. He is being held at Orange County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in injury and reckless driving resulting in injury. Due to his age, authorities have not released his name.

Investigators determined that the boy was riding a Surron electric motorcycle, a high-speed off-road device not legal for street use. “This was an unfortunate accident that could have been prevented,” said Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Lizbeth Gwisdalla.

The Major Accident Investigation Team is continuing the investigation. The case has not yet been submitted to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at (714) 647-7000 or submit anonymous tips at (855) 847-6227.
