At 1:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a solo vehicle incident on Highway 1 near Salt Point State Park. Authorities reported that a female driver lost control of a Nissan Rogue while traveling southbound.

The vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a tree, overturned on an embankment, and came to rest on its roof. An adult male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and two additional passengers, all visiting from Germany, were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. DUI is not suspected, and an investigation is ongoing, according to CHP Officer David deRutte.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his 79-year-old female passenger was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where she later died.
