Two fatalities reported in separate motorcycle crashes in Nevada.

Two motorcyclists died in separate crashes in Nye County and on Highway 160, with incidents occurring on August 1 and August 3, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP).

The first crash occurred on August 1 at approximately 8:30 p.m. on U.S. 95 near mile marker 91. Authorities identified the victim as 73-year-old Gordon Felix of Goldfield, who was riding a 2013 Harley Davidson three-wheeled trike northbound when it veered off the road and struck an embankment. Felix was pronounced dead at the scene, and he was wearing a DOT-approved helmet. The NHP noted that impairment is still under investigation.

In the second incident on August 3, shortly after 7:30 p.m., 55-year-old Douglas Jett from El Mirage, Arizona, was riding a 2016 Suzuki Bandit motorcycle on Highway 160 north of Mount Potosi Canyon Road. For reasons still under investigation, Jett’s motorcycle crossed the centerline, exited the roadway, and collided with a guardrail, ejecting the rider. Jett was airlifted to UMC Trauma in Las Vegas, where he later died; he was also wearing a DOT-approved helmet.

These two incidents mark the 40th fatal crash of the year for the NHP Southern Command, resulting in 50 total fatalities in 2018.
