Two Mississippians killed in separate single-vehicle accidents eight hours apart in neighboring counties.

PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal accidents that occurred Thursday in Pearl River and Stone counties.

The first incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Mississippi 43 in Pearl River County. According to MHP, a 1994 GMC log truck driven by 65-year-old Billy Jefferson of Kokomo ran off the road and struck a tree, resulting in fatal injuries. Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later, at about 4:30 p.m., MHP responded to a second fatal crash on Mississippi 26 in Stone County. A 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 64-year-old Angela Coats of Diamondhead collided with a bridge rail after running off the left side of the road. Coats also suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

MHP officials confirmed that both accidents are under investigation.
