Two Killed in Early Morning Motorcycle Crash in Ridley Township

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, PA — Two individuals were killed in a motorcycle crash shortly before 4 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, on McDade Boulevard.

The Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as William Getty, 26, of Holmes, and Katrina Pennell, 28, of Marcus Hook. According to authorities, both were traveling on Getty’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle when the incident occurred.

Witnesses reported that Getty was traveling at a high rate of speed and clipped another Harley-Davidson operated by 22-year-old Shane Walker from Folsom, leading both motorcycles to crash. Getty’s bike went down approximately half a block from the point of initial contact.

Neither Getty nor Pennell was wearing helmets, resulting in severe head injuries for Pennell. Walker sustained minor leg injuries and was charged with driving under the influence following a field sobriety test.

Ridley police Capt. James Dougherty described the scene as “horrible,” attributing the accident to reckless driving and alcohol consumption. Police noted that Getty and Walker were acquainted prior to the crash.

Emergency response teams, including police and medical aid, quickly arrived at the scene, where crash team investigators were requested. Clean-up efforts included clearing the roadway, which had multiple skid marks from prior incidents.

GoFundMe pages have been established to assist the families of the victims, raising over $20,000 by Monday morning. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
