Wakefield Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash
A Wakefield man died in a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 9 on Tuesday morning.
According to the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Ernesto De La Cruz was northbound on Highway 35 when his motorcycle was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by 42-year-old Cain Pacheco Escobar of Allen. The crash occurred as Escobar attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 35.
De La Cruz was airlifted to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where he was pronounced dead. Pacheco Escobar sustained minor injuries and was transported to Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol. Traffic lanes remain open as crews clear the scene.
