MOUNT VERNON, NY — A 31-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a motorcycle while carrying her 4-year-old nephew in Mount Vernon at approximately 7:20 p.m. on [date].
Authorities said the woman, identified as Alexess Perez, was crossing South 3rd Avenue after parking her car when a motorcycle turned from East 4th Street and collided with her. Perez attempted to shield her nephew, Silas, from the impact, resulting in her sustaining cuts, bruises, and three fractured vertebrae.
Both Perez and Silas were transported to Jacobi Hospital. Silas suffered minor injuries and is also receiving medical attention. Witnesses reported that the motorcycle driver briefly spoke to Perez after the incident before fleeing the scene. According to her, the driver claimed he did not see her despite locking eyes with her moments before the crash and appeared to show signs of alcohol consumption.
