A Leavenworth man died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 2 near Stevens Pass on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. when 68-year-old Donald R. Anderson attempted an illegal U-turn on his motorcycle and was struck by a motorhome driven by 75-year-old James L. Wheeler of Arlington.
Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. Wheeler and a passenger, 76-year-old Patricia A. Wheeler, were transported to Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth for treatment of their injuries.
Troopers said it remains unclear if impairment was a factor in the collision, which led to the closure of the highway’s eastbound lanes for several hours while the scene was investigated and wreckage cleared.
