Motorcycle Rider Killed in Collision with Bus Near UT-AZ Border.

KANE COUNTY, Utah — A collision involving a tour bus and a motorcycle resulted in one fatality Monday evening on U.S. Highway 89.

The deceased motorcyclist has been identified as Joseph Johnston, 45, of Gloucester, Massachusetts.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. near milepost 1, just north of the Utah-Arizona border near Kanab.

Authorities said the motorcycle was attempting a U-turn when it was struck by the bus.

The bus driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital; no other passengers were injured.

Witnesses reported that the bus was carrying nearly 30 tourists from the United Kingdom, en route to Kanab for an overnight stay.

Southbound U.S. Highway 89 was temporarily closed during the emergency response and investigation.

The Utah Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
