93-Year-Old Man Charged with Killing Motorcyclist in Washington County Crash.

CECIL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 93-year-old man faces charges, including homicide by vehicle, following a fatal motorcycle crash on Oct. 6, 2022.

William Erwin Johnston of Wellsburg, W.Va., was charged on Wednesday in connection to the incident that killed 67-year-old John Charles Dinsmore. The crash occurred on the 3800 block of Millers Run Road.

Authorities said Johnston was driving a Lexus SUV westbound when he swerved into Dinsmore’s lane, resulting in a collision. Dinsmore was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, Johnston claimed he couldn’t see other vehicles due to wearing glasses. A witness in the westbound lane reported observing Johnston swerving before the crash.

The Pennsylvania State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist (CARS) confirmed that Johnston crossed the double yellow line, leading to the collision. The investigation is ongoing.

Johnston’s court appearance is scheduled for August.
