KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a semi-truck closed southbound I-29 on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities reported that at approximately 4:10 p.m., a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle collided with a white semi-truck near NW 64th St. The motorcycle was speeding and reportedly weaving through traffic when it struck the rear of the truck, which was carrying an unloaded flatbed trailer.
The motorcyclist, 17-year-old Brody Schleuger, was ejected upon impact and pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver sustained no injuries.
Emergency crews responded promptly, and the motorcycle caught fire after the crash. Southbound I-29 remained closed for approximately three hours for investigation and cleanup but has since been reopened.
According to his obituary, Schleuger was a student at Staley High School and an avid basketball player.
