Motorcyclist dies after fleeing law enforcement and crashing, according to SCHP.

A motorcyclist died early Saturday after a pursuit by a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputy in Ladson, authorities reported.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 3 a.m. when a deputy attempted to stop a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle lacking a license tag near Highway 78 and Midview Drive. The rider failed to stop and fled, leading to a brief chase.

The motorcyclist crashed shortly thereafter at the intersection of Dunmeyer Hill Road and Maria Eden Road in Summerville, authorities said.

The deputy initiated life-saving measures until Charleston County Emergency Medical Services arrived; however, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Unit and Traffic Unit, along with the Charleston County Coroner’s Office, responded to the crash site. The coroner will release the victim’s identity after notifying family members.
