Rochester Man Dies Following Collision with Semi Truck Near Pierpont, South Dakota.

Pierpoint, SD – A Rochester man was killed in a collision with a semi truck following a vehicle-deer accident on Wednesday night.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly before 10:45 p.m. on a rural road approximately seven miles west of Pierpoint, about 40 miles east of Aberdeen.

Authorities reported that the Rochester man, along with a 53-year-old South Dakota man, initially collided with a deer and returned to the scene in a second vehicle. They parked facing east in the westbound lane, exited the vehicle, and left its lights on.

As they exited, a westbound semi approached, and despite the driver’s attempt to swerve, he struck the Rochester man. He was pronounced dead at the scene; his identity has not been released.

The truck driver, a 21-year-old South Dakota man, and the other pedestrian were unharmed. The South Dakota Highway Patrol said the incident remains under investigation.

No lane closures were reported at this time.
