South Dakota Highway Patrol Probes Two Fatal Crashes from Saturday.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Two fatal crashes in South Dakota on Saturday led to multiple injuries and a continued investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The first incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in Sanborn County at the intersection of 399th Avenue and 237th Street, approximately seven miles southwest of Woonsocket. A Ford F-350 was parked on railroad tracks and was struck by a BNSF train.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 29-year-old man, also from Texas, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The second crash took place around 11:15 p.m. in Lincoln County near the intersection of 275th Street and Highway 17, about four miles north of Lennox. A Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east on 275th Street crossed the centerline, entered the north ditch, and collided with a field approach.

The 21-year-old driver from Sioux Falls sustained life-threatening injuries, while a 51-year-old passenger, also from Sioux Falls, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Authorities reported that details are preliminary and investigations are ongoing.
