ZUMBROTA MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN SIOUX FALLS CRASH
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A motorcyclist died following a crash on a Sioux Falls Interstate on-ramp on Sunday evening, May 11.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on the 12th Street on-ramp to northbound Interstate 29. Authorities identified the victim as 44-year-old Derek Berry of Zumbrota.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Berry was riding a Suzuki motorcycle when he entered the on-ramp, which has a sharp curve. Troopers reported that he lost control, striking concrete barriers on both sides of the curve, leading to his being ejected from the motorcycle.
Emergency responders transported Berry to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, although traffic was disrupted for a period.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash.
