Investigation Ongoing into Unclear Circumstances Surrounding Juvenile’s Death in Dickinson Scooter Crash.

DICKINSON, N.D. — A juvenile died from injuries sustained in a scooter accident on 30th Avenue West near Dickinson Middle School on Saturday, May 27, at approximately 5:00 p.m.

North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) confirmed the incident occurred between 18th and 19th Streets West. Authorities reported the juvenile was traveling southbound when the scooter veered right, overturned, and struck a light pole.

Emergency responders pronounced the juvenile dead at the scene. NDHP stated the victim was wearing a helmet during the accident. A 2021 Honda WW150 scooter, classified as a motorcycle due to its engine size of 157 cc, was involved in the crash.

According to NDHP, 30th Avenue West, where the incident occurred, has a speed limit of 35 miles per hour and features four lanes. An investigation into the accident remains ongoing.

The City of Dickinson has regulations stating that scooters are prohibited on city streets, while motorcycles must operate on roadways. City officials noted that the Honda WW150 is classified as a motorcycle based on its engine size.

Authorities continue assessing safety measures in the area, including the lack of sidewalks along the west side of 30th Avenue West. Further updates from local officials are anticipated as the investigation continues.
