Correction: Alaska Army Paratrooper Dies from Motorcycle Accident Injuries
A U.S. Army paratrooper in Alaska died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on August 17, 2023.
Sgt. Timothy Scott Woods II, 26, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail on Glenn Highway near the Park Highway interchange, according to a U.S. Army Alaska news release. He was hospitalized but succumbed to his injuries.
Woods, a native of Salem, Virginia, was assigned to the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) of the 25th Infantry Division’s 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He joined the Army in January 2013, undergoing infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and had previously served at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, and Fort Carson, Colorado, before being stationed in Alaska in August 2016.
The accident remains under investigation, according to the release.
Woods’ military decorations included an Army Commendation Medal with “C” device, three Army Achievement Medals, a Valorous Unit Award, and the Combat Infantry Badge, among others.
