A motorcyclist died Saturday evening after losing control of his bike near the intersection of Minnesota Drive and 40th Avenue in Anchorage.
Anchorage Police received multiple reports of the crash at approximately 7:50 p.m. According to authorities, the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Minnesota Drive when he accelerated to high speed after stopping at a red light.
Witnesses reported that he lost control, performing “speed wobbles,” and was thrown from the motorcycle. He struck a light pole at the southwest corner of Minnesota Drive and Jefferson Avenue.
Emergency responders declared the 31-year-old man dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending family notification, police said.
Minnesota Drive remained closed until approximately 10:45 p.m. while an investigation was conducted. Anchorage Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
