Motorcyclist Dies in O Street Multivehicle Crash in Lincoln
A 23-year-old man died following a multivehicle crash on O Street in Lincoln on Wednesday evening.
Kody Berner was traveling west on O Street near Cotner Boulevard at 5:40 p.m. when his motorcycle collided with an SUV and a sedan, according to Lincoln Police Capt. Todd Kocian. The SUV, driven by Katherine Strickland of Lincoln, and Berner both attempted to merge into the middle lane simultaneously.
Following the initial collision, Berner’s motorcycle slid across the roadway and struck a sedan driven by Shirajur Rahman, also of Lincoln. Emergency responders from Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and transported Berner to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An 18-year-old passenger on Berner’s motorcycle, identified as Alexis Edwards, remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, according to Kocian.
No injuries were reported for Strickland or Rahman, both of whom stayed at the scene following the crash.
As of Thursday morning, the state investigator’s crash report had not yet been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
