BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. (KOTA) – A 55-year-old Newell man died in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 212 on Saturday morning.
Authorities identified the victim as Billy B. Reitz. The crash occurred at approximately 7:07 a.m. near mile marker 26, about 11 miles east of Belle Fourche.
According to preliminary reports from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Reitz was riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide eastbound when he lost control, left the roadway, traveled through a ditch, and struck a fence. Reitz succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Authorities noted that Reitz was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The incident is currently under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
