GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) — A head-on collision on Interstate 70 near Rabbit Valley on Monday resulted in one fatality and serious injuries to six others.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:41 a.m. when Briana Brink, 32, of Colorado Springs, was driving her Subaru Outback east in the westbound lanes. Brink died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Her vehicle collided head-on with a Ford F-150 carrying six individuals from Thornton, Colorado. The impact caused Brink’s Subaru to roll down an embankment and catch fire, while the F-150 came to a stop in the westbound lanes.
The driver of the F-150, a 40-year-old man, along with a 32-year-old female front passenger, a 13-year-old, a 10-year-old girl, and two other passengers were hospitalized with serious injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. Officials request any witnesses or those with information to contact CSP dispatch and reference case number VC260239.
Interstate 70 was closed for nearly five hours following the crash, reopening at approximately 4:37 p.m.
