Fatal Police Chase in South Carolina Triggered by License Plate Violation.

SUMMERVILLE — A high-speed chase involving a motorcycle ended in a fatal crash on Sept. 29, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

The chase began around 7:39 p.m. when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle for a license plate violation on U.S. Highway 78 in Ladson. The motorcycle, operated by 45-year-old James Truesdale of Ladson, fled from the deputy, reaching speeds of 140 mph on Interstate 26.

The pursuit ended when Truesdale’s motorcycle collided with a 2021 Ford Explorer making a legal turn at the intersection of North Main Street and Myers Road in Summerville, approximately six miles from the chase’s origin.

Authorities reported that Truesdale sustained significant trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene by Berkeley County EMS. The driver of the SUV received treatment but declined to be transported to a hospital.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no charges have been filed as of yet, according to officials.
