Fire Truck Accident in Cottonwood Results in One Fatality.

One Fatality in Fire Truck Overturn in Cottonwood, MN

COTTONWOOD, MN—One person was killed, and a child was among two others airlifted after a fire truck overturned in Cottonwood on Friday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Lakeview School, according to the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived to find a Wood Lake Fire Department vehicle on its side in the west ditch.

Authorities confirmed that the fire truck was the only vehicle involved in the crash. A preliminary investigation indicated the truck was traveling northbound at the time of the incident. Three individuals were inside the vehicle.

The deceased has been identified as 43-year-old Patrick Steven Remiger of Wood Lake, who was found pinned by the fire engine.

The other occupants, 37-year-old Andrew Vanhecke and 6-year-old Beaux Vanhecke, were transported to a local hospital before being flown to a medical facility in Sioux Falls. Their current conditions have not been updated. Both are also from Wood Lake.

Authorities stated the fire engine was in the area to participate in the Cottonwood Homecoming Parade. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
