Motorcyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Incident in Denver; Suspect Arrested
DENVER, CO—Maggie Martinez, a local motorcyclist, was killed in a hit-and-run crash near Sheridan Boulevard and Hampden Avenue late Saturday night.
Investigators reported that Martinez, part of a riding group, was struck by a red Audi driven by 40-year-old Nathan Eastman, who fled the scene. Authorities said Martinez was critically injured and later died at a hospital.
According to the Denver Police Department, witnesses and footage from a fellow motorcyclist led to the identification of Eastman’s vehicle and subsequent arrest on Sunday. Eastman faces charges of vehicular homicide-reckless and leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
Witnesses described the vehicle tailing the motorcyclists prior to the crash. One rider, JT Watson, said the Audi followed closely, and Martinez was hit when attempting to change lanes. He noted that she wore proper safety gear at the time.
Court records indicated Eastman has a lengthy criminal history, including prior cases of assault and traffic offenses. He was on probation when the incident occurred and is currently held on a $50,000 cash bond.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and no further details have been released about potential lane closures or traffic conditions.
