One woman injured in early Saturday motorcycle accident outside Atlantic, Iowa.
ATLANTIC, Iowa —
Iowa State Patrol (ISP) is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred at 2:32 a.m. on Saturday on Marne Road near Highway 173.
According to authorities, the motorcycle, a 2018 Harley-Davidson, was traveling westbound when it left the roadway on a curve and crashed into a ditch, ultimately colliding with a telephone pole anchor.
ISP confirmed that Aaron Newton, 44, of Omaha, Nebraska, was pronounced dead at the scene. Brittney Hill, 22, of Atlantic, was injured and airlifted to Mercy Des Moines Hospital via Life Net helicopter.
Both riders were ejected as the motorcycle landed on its side. Authorities noted that neither Newton nor Hill was wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
ISP stated that speed and alcohol are considered factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
