Pennsylvania Turnpike Fatal Accident Involving GOP Candidate Charlie Gerow Under Investigation
A fatal motorcycle accident occurred on the Pennsylvania Turnpike last Wednesday night, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Logan Carl Abbott. The crash has drawn attention due to the involvement of Charlie Gerow, a Republican candidate for governor.
According to authorities, Gerow, 66, was driving a Mercedes 300 westbound in Chester County when he allegedly struck the motorcycle, which was already down on the roadway. Gerow was not driving impaired, and his attorney, Joseph P. Green Jr., stated that preliminary information indicates Abbott’s motorcycle may have been involved in a prior collision.
The accident prompted a seven-hour closure of the Turnpike, impacting westbound traffic just west of the King of Prussia interchange. Abbott, from Wysox, had recently completed 14 consecutive workdays in the oil and gas industry.
Witnesses reported seeing Gerow’s vehicle traveling at a high speed with the motorcycle lodged in its grill. A construction worker stated sparks were flying from the car, which was subsequently pulled over by police several miles down the road.
State police have not confirmed whether any other vehicles were involved in the incident. Gerow is cooperating with the ongoing investigation and has expressed condolences for Abbott’s family.
The investigation remains active, with further details expected from law enforcement agencies.
