Motorcyclist killed in I-77 crash causes extended lane shutdown in Iredell County.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) – A motorcycle crash on I-77 claimed the life of a 35-year-old man early Thursday morning, Oct. 29, 2026.

The incident occurred around 6:10 a.m. near Langtree Road in the southbound toll lane, according to authorities.

Officials identified the victim as Jeffery Robertson, who died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Reports indicate that Robertson was riding a cruiser-style Kawasaki motorcycle when a tire failure caused him to lose control and flip.

After crashing, Robertson was thrown from his motorcycle and struck by an oncoming SUV, while a nearby tractor-trailer subsequently collided with the bike. Emergency medical services responded to the scene, but Robertson was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Initially, investigators suspected the involvement of a hit-and-run vehicle; however, a review of toll lane and dashcam footage found no evidence of additional vehicles involved. The case remains under investigation by the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Authorities closed several lanes of the highway during the investigation, contributing to significant traffic delays in the area.
