LOGAN — A 53-year-old Logan man died and two others were injured Sunday afternoon following a motorcycle and SUV collision on U.S. Highway 91, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:59 p.m. at the intersection of southbound U.S. 91 and 11600 North, near Campbell’s Snacks, as reported by the Utah Highway Patrol.
Investigators stated the motorcyclist was riding a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide southbound when a 25-year-old woman from Beaver Dam, driving a Ford Expedition, pulled away from a stop sign on 11600 North to travel westbound, entering the motorcycle’s path. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the SUV broadside.
The Logan man, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene from fatal injuries. His body has been transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office; his identity will be released once family is notified. Authorities are investigating whether excessive speed contributed to the incident.
Both occupants of the Ford Expedition were wearing seat belts. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Cache Valley Specialty Hospital. Her front-seat passenger, a 52-year-old man also from Beaver Dam, suffered severe injuries and was initially taken to Cache Valley Specialty Hospital before being airlifted to Ogden Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the Expedition was not arrested or cited, but authorities indicated that charges may be forthcoming.
