Man faces assault and DUI charges following motorcycle crash.

PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – A motorcycle accident on U.S. 460 at 9:25 p.m. on July 22 left one rider injured and resulted in felony charges against a local man.

According to the Pikeville Police Department, the crash occurred in front of Indian Hills Liquor Store when the motorcycle collided with a parked red Toyota Tacoma.

Emergency responders reported the motorcycle operator was unresponsive at the scene, while a passenger was found nearby.

Witnesses stated the motorcycle struck the parked truck, which was registered to George Swiney. Authorities said a woman was inside the truck and appeared intoxicated.

Initially, the woman claimed to be driving but later admitted to being a passenger, stating Swiney was behind the wheel and fled the scene, according to police.

At 10:49 p.m., officers located Swiney near a fireworks stand. They reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol on him.

After being read his rights, Swiney requested an attorney and declined sobriety tests. He later consented to a breath test but produced an insufficient sample.

Authorities then secured a search warrant for a blood draw, which was performed at Pikeville Medical Center.

Swiney, 53, faces several charges, including first-degree assault, second-degree assault, DUI, and leaving the scene of an accident.
