Motorcycle Crash Claims Life in Newbury

A 69-year-old man from Concord was killed in a motorcycle collision on Route 302 near the P & H Truck Stop in Newbury on Friday at 3:25 p.m.

According to Vermont State Police, the crash involved a 2020 Harley Davidson Tri Glide Ultra operated by Tracy Mart and a 2020 Indian Roadmaster driven by Steven Staniszewski, 72, from Stevensville, Maryland. Staniszewski had slowed eastbound on Route 302 to allow a truck to turn when Mart collided with his motorcycle.

Mart was ejected from his bike and found unresponsive. Despite CPR and emergency medical treatment, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His motorcycle sustained significant front-end damage. Staniszewski was uninjured, though his vehicle incurred rear and left-side damage. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.


Single-Vehicle Rollover in South Burlington Fatal

A single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 89 South claimed the life of a 33-year-old Barre man early Saturday.

Vermont State Police responded to the incident at 6:12 a.m. near mile marker 86.7 and discovered the vehicle overturned in the median. The sole occupant, identified as Joseph Taplin, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators found that the vehicle had left the roadway before rolling over. South Burlington firefighters assisted at the scene. The investigation is active, and witnesses are urged to contact police.


Lowell Man Flees After Near Miss with Trooper

A Lowell resident was arrested Friday after nearly hitting a Massachusetts state trooper and fleeing into Vermont.

The incident occurred around 4:12 p.m. when a vehicle attempted to strike a trooper during a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Shelburne, Massachusetts. The vehicle was later located abandoned at a gas station in Rockingham. Authorities apprehended driver David A. McAllister, 65, walking on U.S. Route 5 in Bellows Falls. He faces multiple charges, including DUI and providing false information, and is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court on September 15.


New Hampshire Man Cited for Excessive Speed on I-91

Vermont State Police cited a New Hampshire man for speeding over 100 mph on Interstate 91 Friday afternoon.

At around 3:06 p.m., police observed a vehicle traveling at 85 mph before accelerating to 109 mph. The driver, identified as 65-year-old Michel Lurie from Bethlehem, was pulled over and subsequently cited for the offense, bearing a waiver fee of $655.


Drug Impaired Driver Arrested in Groton

A 41-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon in Groton for suspected drug impairment while behind the wheel.

Troopers responded to a report at approximately 3:43 p.m. and found Michael Hoehl nodding off in his vehicle. Initial attempts to misidentify himself were identified as a false name. Police confirmed Hoehl was impaired by drugs and took him into custody, uncovering an active warrant for drug possession from New Hampshire. He was held on $5,000 bail at Northeast Correctional Complex.
