One Dead, Another Injured in Motorcycle Crash Near Gillette, Wyoming
GILLETTE, Wyo. – One person died and another sustained injuries in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 14/16 near milepost 61.6 on July 3.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, 52-year-old Alta Davis was a passenger on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when the rear tire went flat, causing the driver to lose control. Both riders, wearing helmets, were ejected from the motorcycle.
Davis was airlifted to a hospital in Billings for severe injuries, including broken bones and brain damage. She slipped into a coma and was pronounced dead on July 8. Authorities confirmed the driver, her husband Denton Davis, was treated for rib injuries and a small brain bleed in Gillette before being transferred to be closer to Alta. He has since been released.
The couple was reportedly traveling to South Dakota at the time of the accident. Alta Davis was known as a teacher at Early Head Start and had previously worked as a daycare and preschool provider.
