Motorcycle rider with life-threatening injuries drives wrong way on Braga Bridge and is struck while running through traffic, reports Fall River Reporter.

BRISTOL, MA — A 32-year-old motorcyclist was struck by a vehicle on Route 195 West after fleeing on foot from a motorcycle crash on the Braga Bridge today.

The incident occurred around 12:38 p.m. when the male motorcyclist from Westerly, RI, was reported driving a Yamaha Sportbike at a high rate of speed in the eastbound lane, weaving between vehicles. Authorities said he then reversed direction, riding westbound into oncoming traffic, striking a Massachusetts State Police cruiser and another vehicle.

After colliding with the vehicles, the motorcyclist abandoned his bike and ran into westbound lanes, where he was subsequently hit by another motorist. He sustained significant injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where his condition is reported to be life-threatening, according to Fall River EMS.

Massachusetts State Police were already on the Braga Bridge assisting with a disabled vehicle at the time of the incident, which caused significant traffic delays. An investigation is ongoing, led by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

It is unclear if any other injuries were reported or if charges will be filed. Roadway conditions were impacted following the incident with lane closures on Route 195.
