A 49-year-old motorcyclist died after rear-ending an SUV on the Cross Bronx Expressway in Parkchester Saturday afternoon, police said.
Pedro Cortes was riding a 2004 Suzuki westbound when he collided with a 2020 Dodge Durango near Pugsley Ave. at approximately 4:45 p.m., authorities confirmed. The impact forced him into the central divider, ejecting him from the motorcycle onto the roadway.
Cortes was transported to Jacobi Medical Center where he later died. Police confirmed that he was speeding at the time of the incident. The driver of the Durango, a 51-year-old man, remained on the scene and is not facing any immediate charges as the investigation continues.
Cortes, a maintenance worker from Pelham Bay, leaves behind four children and two grandchildren. Witnesses reported he was on his way to visit his son in New Jersey.
Emergency services included local police and medical responders. No additional vehicles were reported involved in the collision, and lane closures were implemented as authorities conducted their investigation.
