Motorcyclist Dies in High-Speed Crash with Police Cruiser in Virginia Beach
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A motorcyclist died early Monday following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a collision with a police vehicle.
According to Virginia State Police (VSP), the incident began around 1:30 a.m. when a trooper attempted to stop a Honda motorcycle for reckless driving on I-264 East near Rosemont Road. The motorcyclist failed to stop, prompting a pursuit.
The motorcycle exited the interstate at Lynnhaven Parkway. Witnesses reported the motorcyclist was traveling over 100 miles per hour when it collided with a Virginia Beach Police Department cruiser that was crossing the intersection of Lynnhaven and Fern Ridge Road.
The motorcyclist was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The police officer involved was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not yet been disclosed. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, authorities said.
