Motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV on Washington Street in Auburn, police say
AUBURN, Maine —
A motorcyclist died following a crash with an SUV on Washington Street on Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. involving a 2022 Volvo SUV and a 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Authorities stated the SUV changed lanes, leading the motorcycle operator to collide with its rear.
The impact ejected the motorcyclist, who was found near a guardrail. The SUV veered off the roadway, stopping in a wooded area.
The motorcycle operator was pronounced dead at the scene; police confirmed the rider was wearing a helmet. The SUV driver sustained no injuries.
Authorities are withholding names pending family notification. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, with speed considered a possible contributing factor.
Washington Street southbound was closed for several hours, and the northbound lanes were reduced to one lane until about 12 p.m., as traffic was redirected.
