EVERETT, Wash. — A six-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle resulted in one fatality and blocked multiple lanes of southbound Interstate 5 near Everett Mall Way on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Trooper Kelsey Harding confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. at milepost 189, initially blocking three left lanes of southbound I-5 due to a serious-injury collision.
A motorcycle traveling in Lane 3 struck five other vehicles before colliding with a sixth vehicle in the HOV lane. The motorcycle and the sixth vehicle came to rest on the left shoulder, while the other vehicles stopped in the HOV lane and Lane 3.
The motorbike rider was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries to occupants of the other vehicles were reported.
This incident involved five passenger vehicles and one motorcycle. Authorities cited speed as the primary cause of the collision; however, it remains undetermined if drugs or alcohol were factors.
Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes due to significant delays. There was no estimated time for full road reopening on Tuesday evening.
