Motorcyclist dies in collision on Corralitos Road.

CORRALITOS — A 23-year-old motorcycle rider from Santa Cruz County died following a collision with a pickup truck early Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:01 a.m. at the intersection of Corralitos Road and Merk Road, involving a 61-year-old Watsonville man driving a white 2000 GMC truck and the motorcyclist riding a red 2004 Yamaha motorcycle, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Authorities reported the GMC was traveling northbound on Corralitos Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Merk Road when it collided with the southbound motorcycle. Preliminary investigations indicate that speed and visibility remain under investigation, with no evidence suggesting that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

The motorcyclist sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the GMC was not injured.

The CHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, noting that the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, and the GMC driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

“The CHP extends our deepest sympathies to the motorcyclist’s family and friends for this unfortunate crash,” said CHP Santa Cruz Capt. Grant Boles. Boles emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in ensuring a safer roadway environment.
