Motorcyclist dies in Rochester crash near Highway 63 ramp on Tuesday.

ROCHESTER, Minn. — A fatal motorcycle crash occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of 40th St. SE and Woodlake Dr. near Highway 63.

Authorities from the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office report that the collision took place around 11:05 a.m. A man riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the SUV driver reported no injuries.

The Rochester Police Department’s Forensic Mapping Unit has shut down the eastbound lanes of 40th St. SE from the Highway 63 ramp to St. Bridget Road SE to conduct an investigation. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are assisting at the scene.

As summer traffic increases, motorcycle accidents remain a significant concern in Minnesota, according to local authorities. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This incident illustrates a troubling trend, as motorcycle fatalities in Minnesota have risen sharply this year.
