INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – A motorcycle crash on eastbound I-70 resulted in a fatality Saturday night.
According to the Independence Police Department, officers responded to the scene near Sterling Avenue at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Investigators reported that a 58-year-old motorcyclist lost control of a 2016 Harley-Davidson on the wet highway, was ejected, and subsequently struck by multiple oncoming vehicles.
The motorcyclist, identified as John Michael of Blue Springs, was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. Drivers of the vehicles involved remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.
Authorities confirmed that the eastbound lanes of I-70 are currently closed, and drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
