A motorcycle crash in Virginia City on Sunday night resulted in the death of a 34-year-old man from Reno, identified as Stephen Klein.
The incident occurred shortly after 8:45 p.m. when Storey County deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Klein’s black Harley Davidson motorcycle on C Street near Taylor. Authorities reported that Klein slowed down but then sped off in the wrong direction on North C Street near Sutton Street. The motorcycle was later found lying on the ground at North C Street and North D Street.
According to officials, the motorcycle struck a guardrail, causing Klein to be thrown down an embankment. Despite attempts at life-saving measures by paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, authorities said.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash, while the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a coroner’s investigation. Witnesses are encouraged to call 775-847-0959 and reference case 26-1052 for any information.
As a result of the crash, State Route 341 is closed between D and B Streets and is expected to remain closed for the next three to four hours. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
