Former Alabama Governor Bob Riley Injured in Alaska Motorcycle Accident
FAIRBANKS, AK — Former Alabama Governor Bob Riley was hospitalized following a motorcycle accident on a gravel road near Fairbanks on Sunday. The accident occurred while Riley was on a cross-country trip that began two weeks ago.
According to his former chief of staff, Dave Stewart, Riley suffered seven broken ribs and a punctured lung but is reportedly in good spirits. “The doctor said he’s in good shape,” Stewart stated.
Riley lost control of his motorcycle after hitting a slick spot on the road. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Currently, there are no details available on road closures or ongoing investigations related to the accident.
Riley’s wife, Patsy Riley, expressed her relief, saying, “God was watching out for him,” and noted that the situation could have been much worse. Bob Riley served eight years as Alabama’s governor, with his term concluding in January.
