Motorcyclist in critical condition following Putnam County crash.

CONTINENTAL, Ohio (WLIO) — A motorcycle crash critically injured a 42-year-old man in Putnam County on Saturday night.

The incident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. on State Route 634 near Road J. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Louis Wannemacher of Cecil was traveling north when he veered off the left side of the roadway, struck a telephone pole, and overturned his motorcycle.

Wannemacher was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was initially transported by Continental EMS to Putnam County Ambulatory Care in Glandorf before being airlifted to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

The 2008 Harley Davidson Street Glide sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene by Jim Schmidt Towing.

Authorities stated that the crash is currently under investigation. They noted that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.

Emergency responders included the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Putnam County EMS, and Continental Fire. The Ohio State Highway Patrol urges all motorists to avoid impaired driving and to wear helmets while riding motorcycles.

This investigation is ongoing.
