PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. —
A 17-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a high-speed collision with a semi-trailer on southbound Interstate 29 on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:11 p.m. near Northwest 64th Street.
According to Kansas City police, the rider was operating a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle at a “very high rate” of speed, weaving through traffic before rear-ending a white Freightliner semi-trailer pulling an unloaded flatbed. The force of the impact ejected the rider, causing the motorcycle to catch fire.
Authorities reported that the motorcyclist, identified as Brody Schleuger, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-trailer suffered no injuries.
All lanes on a section of southbound I-29 were closed for several hours as crews conducted an investigation.
