A 56-year-old man died late July 16 in a motorcycle crash in Vilano Beach, St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The incident occurred at 11:32 p.m. at the intersection of Coastal Highway and Cedar Avenue. A 25-year-old man from Ponte Vedra Beach collided with the motorcycle while attempting to pass another vehicle in the southbound lane, FHP reported.
The motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The sedan driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured; the impact resulted in the sedan leaving the roadway and striking a sign at a Circle K.
FHP confirmed the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details about lane closures or tows have been released.
