17-year-old motorcyclist killed in crash with semi-truck on southbound Interstate 29 in Platte County, Mo., Wednesday afternoon.
PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. —
The incident occurred around 4:11 p.m. near Northwest 64th Street, according to Kansas City police.
Authorities said the motorcyclist was operating a Kawasaki Ninja at a high rate of speed, weaving through traffic before colliding with the rear of a Freightliner semi-trailer.
The impact caused the motorcycle to ignite, resulting in a fire that engulfed the vehicle.
The rider, identified as Brody Schleuger, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi was reported uninjured.
Emergency crews closed all southbound lanes of I-29 for several hours to facilitate the investigation.
