PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. — A 17-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday afternoon in a high-speed crash involving a semi-trailer on southbound Interstate 29.
The incident occurred around 4:11 p.m. near Northwest 64th Street. According to Kansas City police, the rider was operating a Kawasaki Ninja at a “very high rate” of speed, weaving through traffic before colliding with the rear of a white Freightliner semi-trailer.
The impact ejected the motorcyclist, causing the motorcycle to ignite and become engulfed in flames. The rider, identified as Brody Schleuger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities reported that the driver of the semi was uninjured. All southbound lanes of I-29 were closed for several hours to allow emergency crews to conduct an investigation and clear the wreckage.
